In 1961, castle Devin was declared a National Cultural Inheritance. Its ruins lie on top of a cliff overlooking both rivers Danube and Morava. The castle is currently visited mainly for its beautiful surroundings and the tremendous view you get on them from the ruin itself. Above it there is a highest hill in the area Devinska Kobyla with its western side called Sandberg which is well known for the archeological discoveries of tertiary fossils. About the castle. Its history reaches back to 1240 and is considered to be unique amongst mid-European architecture. There is a museum inside the castle which shows you the lives of the nobility living there in the past. This museum’s collection is –by its extent and quality- one of the most valuable in Slovakia. The castle was first opened to the public in 1997. There is also an exposition of the life of the aristocracy where you can see many types of living spaces in many different styles- depending on the time period that it was made in. The trip is very beautiful as you travel along the Small Carpathians and a vineyard areas.
